Are Eye and Vision Exams the Same?

Eye and vision exams are not the same. An eye exam is a comprehensive evaluation of your vision and the overall health of your eyes. During an eye exam, our optometrist will check for refractive errors (such as nearsightedness or farsightedness), astigmatism, color blindness, and other issues with your vision. We will also measure your eye pressure and check for any signs of diseases or conditions, such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. A vision exam focuses on assessing a person's visual acuity (the clarity of their vision). It does not include any tests to evaluate the eyes' overall health.

When Should I Have an Eye Exam?

We recommend that all adults should have their eyes examined every two years. For children, it is best to schedule eye exams regularly beginning at birth. This timeline may vary depending on the individual's age and risk factors for diseases or conditions.

What Happens During an Eye Exam?

During an eye exam, our optometrist will assess your vision and the overall health of your eyes. We will ask you about any issues with your eyes and determine how we can help. We will then conduct several tests to measure the health of your eyes.

What about Glasses and Contacts?

We also provide prescription glasses and contacts. Our optometrist can assess your vision and determine your best lens type. We offer various frames in different colors, styles, and materials, so you're sure to find something that suits your needs.

Do I Need to Bring Anything to My Eye Exam?

You should bring a list of medications you are taking and your eyeglasses or contact lenses if you wear them. You may also want to bring a friend or family member for moral support. It's always suitable to accompany children to their eye exams as well.
